چکیده

The present paper studies two different table-based approaches for the calibration of electronic imaging systems. The first approach, which is the classical one, uses the device-independent CIE-XYZ colorimetric space as an intermediate standard space. Input and output devices such as scanners, displays and printers are calibrated separately with respect to the objective CIE-XYZ space. The calibration process requires establishing a 3-dimensional mapping between a scanner’s device-dependent RGB space and a device-independent colorimetric space such as CIE-XYZ. Measured samples belonging to the calibration set are used for splitting the colorimetric space into Delaunay tetrahedrons. The second approach, the so-called closed loop approach, calibrates directly scanner-printer pairs, without any reference to an objective colorimetric space. It enables a 3-D mapping to be built between the scanner’s RGB space and the printer’s CMY space without requiring any colorimetric measurement. It offers very accurate calibrated output for input samples having the same characteristics (halftone dot, ink spectral reflectance) as the printed samples used for the calibration process. When the desktop scanners’ RGB sensibilities are not a linear transform of the CIE x, y, z matching curves, an accurate calibration can only be made if input color patches are based on the same primary inks as the patches used for device calibration.

Color Management for Color Facsimile

We propose a color management system for the color facsimile. It consists of protocols for the colorimetric calibration of the scanner and the printer by establishing the relationships between the device-dependent color coordinates and the device-independent CIELAB color space. The scanner calibration is based on 3rd order polynomial regression techniques. The printer calibration uses 3D triang...

Colorimetric Scanner Calibration for Textiles by Neural-Network

In this study, colorimetric calibration of scanner has been done via perceptron neural network with three or four layers by back propagation algorithm for colored polyester fabrics. The results obtained for random training samples are not satisfactory but application of selective training samples for L*a*b* or RGB leads to good results, with better results obtained for the L*a*b* method. On the...

Closed-loop color calibration for the home user

The proliferation of cheap color peripherals such as printers, scanners and digital cameras, has rendered them accessible to home users who can connect them to capture color images, and print these out on a color hard-copy device such as an ink-jet printer. Color consistency between the scanned original and the printed image is a well-known problem that has been approached by various techniques...

Novel scanner characterization method for color measurement and diagnostics applications

We propose a novel scanner characterization approach for applications requiring color measurement of hardcopy output in printer calibration, characterization, and diagnostic applications. It is assumed that a typical printed medium comprises the three basic colorants C, M, Y. The proposed method is particularly advantageous when additional colorants are used in the print (e.g. black (K)). A fam...
